The Steelers have paid special attention to a few different positions at the NFL Scouting Combine, including linebacker and in the secondary. However, it truly appears they are also turning over a lot of stones at wide receiver.
The receivers the Steelers have met with this week include Ohio State's Carnell Tate, USC's Makai Lemon, Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, Washington's Denzel Boston, Texas A&M's KC Concepcion, Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr., Alabama's Germie Bernard and Notre Dame's Malachi Fields. Pretty much, if there's a receiver ranked near the top of the class, the Steelers have met with them.
Tate is the darling of the class, but Tyson could be the most impactful player should his injuries not be a problem. Lemon is mainly a slot guy, but is such a precise route runner and so great on contested throws that a team is going to take him early. Boston's a big-bodied receiver at 6-4 and 210 pounds and could realistically be available at 21st overall. As I reported in this week's Friday Insider, many defensive backs the Steelers met with this week have raved about Concepcion. Cooper, Bernard and Fields are all potential Day 2 picks, but are still very talented.
For context, the Steelers did not do this with the wide receiver position at last year's Combine. I was told they were not sold on the class, meeting with only a few of the receivers and wound up not selecting any in the 2025 NFL Draft. This year, the interest is very real.
This makes a lot of sense. Depth behind the team's No. 1 receiver has been a massive hole on the roster for far too long. Now, it appears Omar Khan is taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
