It's been no secret that Omar Khan wants to find the next franchise quarterback. Yes, he'd like Aaron Rodgers to return to the Steelers for 2026, but that's nothing more than a bridge. Heading into this offseason, taking another step toward establishing that future quarterback remains paramount.
"We all agree that we're looking for that next franchise guy," Khan said Tuesday morning at the NFL Scouting Combine. "We're not there yet. We may have a guy on the roster, we don't know, in Will [Howard]. We're excited to work with Will. We know that it has to be addressed. We're all looking for the same thing, we're just not there yet."
Howard, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has yet to take a snap in the NFL. Khan said Tuesday he and Mike McCarthy have watched back the Steelers' practice film from last season, studying Howard's growth. He's certainly an option moving forward.
However, Khan isn't married solely to Howard. Despite the majority of the public believing this year's draft class is weak at quarterback, Khan isn't ready to rule out the possibility of taking one in April's draft.
"There's some good players here," Khan said. "It's early. We have to go through the process."
