Despite the NFL's attempt to keep the NFL Players Association from printing their annual player report cards, they became public knowledge on Thursday in a report by ESPN. And in those report cards, the Steelers ranked dead last among all 32 teams.
The biggest criticism from the players who participated in the survey was Art Rooney II's "willingness to invest in facilities." The biggest concern here was the playing surface at Acrisure Stadium, which was ranked the worst home field in the report cards. The game that made the playing surface a topic of criticism was a 23-9 win over the Browns in Week 6, in which the playing surface was torn to pieces. Players from both sides were openly critical of the playing surface after the game.
"Players cite inadequate maintenance and excessive wear from hosting local college and high school games," the survey said, per ESPN's report. "Players across the league note the poor condition of the field and emphasize the need for investment to bring it up to standard."
Despite the Steelers making small renovations to the locker room on the South Side, the players that participated in the survey still gave an F grade for it. The survey specifically said the bathroom/shower area has only five bathroom stalls for the entire team.
Team spokesman Burt Lauten gave a statement to ESPN in response to the survey, saying, "We are not going to comment on a report that we have not seen in its entirety."
