In reviewing the data from the workouts that took place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine, we can now take a look to see which players did enough to increase their draft stock.
There's still a long way to go in this process. But, the Combine is the start of seeing players separate themselves from the pack. For now, since the Steelers met with a good helping of defensive backs, here are three that stood out in Indianapolis:
• Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon: The Steelers held a formal meeting with Thieneman, who was one of the standouts during the defensive back workouts. He not only turned in a blazing 4.35 in the 40-yard dash, logged a 41-inch vertical and 10-foot-5 broad jump, but he crushed the movement drills, flashing smooth hips and athleticism.
• Colton Hood, CB, Tennessee: Another player that formally met with the Steelers, Hood also had a great workout day. He ran a 4.44 40-yard dash and earned a 9.61 RAS (Relative Athletic Score). Hood capped off his day with fluid movement and footwork throughout all drills, but Hood was also quite impressive at the podium, as well.
• Chris Johnson, CB, San Diego State: Another player who earned an impressive RAS (9.71), Johnson's 4.40 speed was on display, along with a confident and controlled show during movement drills. He dropped a couple passes, but his speed and athleticism are off the charts. His testing could make him and outside candidate to be drafted late in the first round.
