Longtime Steelers reporter Dale Lolley has passed away from battling cancer. He was 56.
Mr. Lolley had covered the Steelers for 32 years, with his journey beginning at The Observer-Reporter based out of Washington, Pa. Most recently, he was contributing writer and editor on Steelers.com, in addition to hosting The SNR Drive on Steelers Nation Radio alongside Matt Williamson.
Before his move to Steelers.com in 2022, Mr. Lolley covered the team for five years right here at DK Pittsburgh Sports. The many subscribers here who read his work and interacted with him not only understand how much he knew about the team he covered, but the drive with which he did it.
Perhaps the proudest moment of Mr. Lolley's career was his interview with Troy Polamalu right here on DK Pittsburgh Sports. Not only is that interview still the most-read piece in this site's history, but Mr. Lolley was also Pittsburgh's voter that year for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which required him to put together a pitch for why Polamalu deserved to be selected. And, as we now know, Polamalu wound up earning the necessary votes.
Mr. Lolley's passion for covering the Steelers is unrivaled. Even over the final few months of his life, he remained fervently dedicated to his work. In the announcement for his move to Steelers.com, he said, "I've spent more than half of my life covering the team. If I'm not writing about them, I'm talking about them. It's what I do."
That's exactly what he did, right until the very end.
Mr. Lolley is survived by his wife, Amy, and three children, Noah, Tanner and Madelyn.
