The Steelers are re-signing cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to a one-year, $4 million contract, according to NFL Network.
Samuel, 26, signed with the Steelers' practice squad in the middle of the 2025 season after a long recovery from spinal fusion surgery. He wound up playing six games for the Steelers, recording one interception, one pass defensed and 10 tackles.
Bringing Samuel back helps shore up a cornerback position that was left bare as both Samuel and James Pierre were bound for free agency, though it's hardly the only move that needs to be made. The Steelers also have interest in bringing Pierre back, but bringing Samuel back might be some insurance in case Pierre winds up signing elsewhere. Pierre's market is expected to be quite busy if he remains unsigned by the time the free agency negotiating window opens Monday at noon.
