With the Steelers selecting Derrick Harmon at 21st overall, they've solidified their defensive line, and they didn't trade back. So how might that set things up on Day 2?
Before Day 2 gets underway, typically the first-round pick comes and does his introductory press conference. However, given the circumstances with his mother, we'll see.
As far as Day 2 of the draft, the Steelers currently only have their third-round pick, 83rd overall. They traded their second-rounder to the Seahawks in the DK Metcalf trade. And, that's how the Steelers are viewing the use of that pick. They got themselves a darn good receiver with it. Pick well spent.
Of course, Omar Khan would love to try and acquire another pick on Day 2. It doesn't even have to be in the second round. The team views Day 2 as the sweet spot in this draft. So, it wouldn't surprise me to see a move to add a pick, most likely in the third round. Maybe something like trading this year's fourth-round pick and next year's third rounder could do it. They can afford to trade their original picks next year because they are currently projected to receive the maximum four compensatory picks next year, including a third-rounder for losing Dan Moore in free agency.
There are positions to keep an eye on on Day 2. Running back is a big one, and there will be many available. Quarterback, too. Only two went in the first round. Also, I wouldn't rule out another defensive tackle, maybe a true nose, though Day 3 might be better for that.
