Andrew McCutchen in the snow. - MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

Before the Pirates played a home opener for the 131st time in their National League history, I overheard an unexpected conversation.

You see, everyone was concerned about the bursts of ice-pellet-like-snow that would come through PNC Park from time to time ahead of Friday's 1:05 p.m. scheduled start (and throughout it, actually).

Everyone, that is, except for Bob Friend.

Friend was in town to be honored for his contributions to the Pirates organization and the community, and caught up with Pirates team president Frank Coonelly before being honored by owner Bob Nutting.
