Patric Hörnqvist. - MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

Throughout the summer, I'll bridge the gap between glancing back and looking forward by issuing Penguins Progress Reports. See the bottom of this post for descriptions of the stats listed.

Today's subject is Patric Hörnqvist

Basic production: 70 games, 21 goals, 23 assists, 44 points, 15:57 average TOI, 61.0 Goals For %

Hörnqvist basically nailed his career per-game averages in goals (0.30), assists (0.33), points (0.63), shots on goal (3.19) and ice time, even though his 70 games represented his second-lowest total in seven full NHL seasons.

One doesn't necessarily think of points when conjuring images of Hörnqvist's rough-edged game, but not only did his traditional 'boxcar' numbers hold up just fine, he also led the Penguins in individual shot attempts per 60 even-strength minutes, with his 17.1 mark besting runners-up Scott Wilson (15.1) and Sidney Crosby (14.9) by a fairly significant margin.
