It's always fun when a local athlete returns home to face the hometown team. It's even more fun when they do well. Don't get me wrong: A Vincent Trocheck hat trick isn't exactly best for business. But it's a really fun angle to take.
So, when the Ducks' John Gibson, a Whitehall product who hadn't fared well against the Penguins in his young NHL career, returned home Saturday for the only time this season, it was an awfully opportune time for the home team to be shut out for the first time this year, and this by a young man performing miles from where he grew up.
There are a few shots of Gibson in this edition, and a couple of the other two goalies who played: Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry. You can see that duo above — two ships passing in the night — as Jarry replaced Murray in the second period.
