Penn State set to play Michigan State for homecoming

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The game won't happen until Oct. 13 and hopefully this time around it won't feature a lengthy lightning delay, but the Nittany Lions are scheduled to play Michigan State for this year's homecoming game, Penn State announced Tuesday.

Penn State won their last three homecoming games, including last year against Rutgers, in a game that wasn't played until Nov. 11. By bumping up the homecoming game and putting it back in October it means this year's matchup will be Penn State first game after the bye week. Penn State plays Ohio State on Sept. 29 in Beaver Stadium and will have the Spartans the week after the bye.

The Nittany Lions also have a previously announced Friday night game on the road at Illinois that's slated for Sept. 21. The Big Ten desires to get more teams in the occasional Friday spot for more exposure and while Penn State said in the past it's not in favor of surrendering a Saturday game in Beaver Stadium and stepping on the toes of high school football -- plus limiting the number of recruits who could make it to campus for a visit for a Friday night game -- ultimately it's up to the conference.

Kick times for all the of games will be announced much closer to the season as will additional details surrounding Penn State's homecoming festivities.
