STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Robbie Martin had yet to play a down in a game for the Nittany Lions, but the redshirt freshman offensive lineman announced Monday night he is walking away from the sport.
I want to thank the entire penn state coaching staff for the opportunities they have given me, it is sad yet relieving to say that I’m am done with football. My love for playing has just decreased for a while. But I’m glad to say I’m very happy and can’t wait to pursue my future!

Martin, a three-star offensive tackle, was part of the scout team last year after enrolling and taking a redshirt as a freshman. With the spring semester wrapped up and the first summer session underway as of Monday, it makes sense that there would be some sort of roster turnover. By my count, without Martin on scholarship, this would put Penn State at 86 scholarships. The Nittany Lions need to be down to 85 by the time camp starts in late July.
Penn State will have 15 other offensive linemen on scholarship without Martin and they include:
• Chasz Wright
• Sterling Jenkins
• Steven Gonzalez
• Ryan Bates
• Connor McGovern
• Alex Gellerstedt
• Will Fries
• Michal Menet
• Michael Miranda
• CJ Thorpe
• Des Holmes
• Bryce Effner
• Frederick ‘Juice’ Scruggs
• Nana Asiedu
• Rasheed Walker
Penn State announced jersey numbers for the four May enrollees on Monday:
• QB Will Levis, 17
• TE Pat Freiermuth, 87
• DT Judge Culpepper, 88
• DT PJ Mustipher, 93
