Pirates keep Feliz, McRae, tender two others

The Pirates are bringing Michael Feliz back despite his disappointing 2018 season.

The right-handed reliever was signed to a one-year, $850,00 contract Friday, avoiding a potential salary arbitration hearing. The Pirates also tendered contracts to Keone Kela and left fielder Corey Dickerson, their other two players eligible for arbitration.

Team and players will exchange arbitration figures in January.

Feliz, 25, was one of four players acquired from the Astros in January in the trade for Gerrit Cole. Feliz began the season as the primary set-up man but wound up going 1-2 with a 5.66 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 47 games.

The Pirates also announced that right-hander Alex McRae has cleared waivers and been invited to spring training as a non-roster player. He was designated for assignment Tuesday when Lonnie Chisenhall was signed as a free agent.

The 25-year-old made his major league debut this year and was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in two games.
