OAKLAND, Calif . -- Moments after throwing a 1-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster with 10 seconds remaining in the first half against the Raiders, Ben Roethlisberger jogged off the field to the locker room with a team doctor.
He did not return to the field to start the second half, with Josh Dobbs replacing him, then re-entered the game in teh fourth quarter to lead a go-ahead TD drive.
Roethlisberger, who suffered a rib injury, was slow to get up following a second-quarter sack by Clinton McDonald. But he remained in the game at that point and completed 18 of 22 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown as the Steelers took a 14-10 lead.
Roethlisberger jogged back onto the field with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter during a stoppage in play and returned to the Steelers' sideline. He had his helmet with him, but put it in the bench area.
He began warming up after Dobbs threw an interception late in the third quarter and appeared to be ready to go back into the game. But Dobbs remained in the game.
But when the Raiders scored on a three-yard pass from Derek Carr to Lee Smith with 5:20 remaining in the game to take a 17-14 lead, Roethlisberger returned.
He went 6-for-6 on the drive, finishing it off with a 1-yard TD pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster to give the Steelers a 21-17 lead with 2:55 remaining.
