Butler: Driskel will 'present some problems' taken at Rooney Complex (Steelers)

Keith Butler is not underestimating Bengals quarterback Jeff Driskel.

Since taking over for an injured Andy Dalton in Week 13, Driskel has posted a 1-3 record, throwing five touchdowns against two interceptions while averaging 167 yards per game.

While the numbers don't pop off the page, Butler acknowledges things Driskel does well as he commands the Bengals' offense.

"I think any time you have a running quarterback — and he can throw the ball too — but his legs get him out of trouble a lot, and so you gotta be careful in your rush lanes when you’re rushing him," Butler told the media Thursday at the Rooney Complex.

As Butler notes, Driskel's attack is twofold. In addition to his passing, Driskel has averaged four rushes per game as a starter, extending plays and drives in the process.

That is where Butler sees the biggest challenge as his team faces the Bengals Sunday at Heinz Field.

"You gotta be careful in terms of how you play him in coverage because he can break out of there on third-and-3 or something like that and get the first down, third-and-5, third-and-10," Butler said. "You see those guys running for first downs and nobody’s getting around them because everybody’s playing man-to-man, got their backs to them, all that stuff. So yeah, he’s going to present some problems to us."

The Steelers (8-6-1) face the Bengals (6-9) Sunday at 4:25 p.m. The Steelers defeated the Bengals, 28-21, in their first encounter during Week 6.
