AB competes as singing hippo on game show

There's a lot to unpack here, so buckle up.

Antonio Brown was a contestant on the new FOX show The Masked Singer that aired on Wednesday night.

The premise of the show is that a well-known celebrity performs a song while in disguise in front of judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke. The judges and audience then have to guess who is wearing the mask.

One of the contestants sang Bobby Brown's 'My Prerogative' while dressed as a hippo in an Arby's logo-style hat.

McCarthy thought he was an "okay" singer. Scherzinger thought he sounded like a professional athlete (translation = bad).

The show included a video of clues, where the hippo said he "conquers every arena that he enters."

At the end of the show, the hippo removed the mask as the first singer eliminated, and revealed himself to be Antonio Brown.

Host Nick Cannon asked Brown how performing as the hippo compared to playing in a Super Bowl.

"It's a challenge," said Brown. "It was a challenge being able to stay on beat, but it was exciting. I was glad to be a part of it and I had a good time today."

While the show didn't premiere until Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly reports that the show was filmed in June. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter a producer said contestants took the time to design their own costumes. The show was filmed "with insanely thorough security — and strict NDAs — that prevented the identities of each participant from leaking."

So, no Facebook Live allowed.

"This was a awesome experience, an amazing opportunity" Brown said after the show. "It was a challenge being able to learn the song really fast and also being able to perform it. I picked the song because I really felt comfortable singing a song with a lot of energy. I thought I would be able to pull this one off.

"I think the hippo fit my personality," Brown continued. "He had the chains, super cool, athletic. His head was a little bigger than mine. ... Pretty amazing being the hippo, being under the radar, being able to just do my thing. I had so much fun challenging myself."

As the show was pre-filmed, Brown watched the premiere from his couch, where he posted this on his Instagram story:

A "purgative" is a laxative.
