Brooks Orpik. -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

Brooks Orpik skated in his 1,000th career regular season game on Jan. 14th, becoming the 330th player in NHL history to do so.

The Capitals honored Orpik, 38, for his achievement prior to Friday's game against the Islanders. Orpik's wife Erin, and daughters Brooklyn and Harlow were on hand when Orpik was presented with a commemorative stick and crystal. Capitals players chipped in with a trip to Utah for the Orpik family:

The Capitals honored Orpik with this video during the game, featuring congratulatory messages from Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury:

"Hey Orps, congratulations on 1000 games," said Crosby. "I definitely preferred the ones with you than against you. It's an amazing accomplishment, and I hope you and your family have a great night."

Former Penguin Deryk Engelland also made an appearance.

"Hey Broosky, just wanted to say congratulations on your 1000th game," said Engelland. "I watched your game very closely and tried to mold it after you. Congrats on 1000 and many more to come."

Alex Ovechkin spoke on Orpik's longevity prior to Orpik's 1000th game.

"Someone doesn't drink beer, right?," said Ovechkin. "Someone doesn't drink Coke. You try to be healthy. Maybe one day I will do the same, but everybody's different."

Of Orpik's 1000 games, 703 were with the Penguins. He recorded 13 goals, 119 assists, 734 penalty minutes, 879 blocked shots, and 1,595 hits during his time in Pittsburgh.
