Could the Pirates be facing the 2015 American League Cy Young Award winner next week when they visit the Braves in Atlanta?
The Braves have agreed to contract terms with free agent left-hander Dallas Keuchel according to multiple reports. Though Keuchel has sat out the entire season waiting for the right offer, he has said he could be ready to pitch within a week of signing.
If that is truly the case, then perhaps he will face the Pirates next Thursday afternoon in the finale of the four-game series at SunTrust Park. Keuchel will pitch Saturday for the Braves' Class AAA Gwinnett farm club, which would put him on schedule to pitch on regular four days of rest Thursday.
Keuchel, 31, has spent his entire seven-year career with the Astros. Last season, he was 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA in 34 starts. In his Cy Young season, Keuchel had a 20-5 record.
The Braves (33-29) are in second place in the National League East, two games behind the Phillies, after winning the division title last year. The Braves lost two of three to the Pirates in a series that ended Thursday afternoon.
