Multiple Clemson football players and members of its coaching staff tested positive for coronavirus, the school announced Friday.
A university spokesperson said 315 covid-19 tests were completed this month, and 28 came back positive. The numbers include 23 football players and two coaches. Three student-athletes from other sports accounted for the other positive tests.
Clemson said the majority of the cases are asymptomatic and none required hospitalization.
The news comes six days after a peaceful protest supporting the Black Lives Matter movement was held in Clemson. The event reportedly was organized by members of the football team. It also comes on the day South Carolina announced its highest number of new coronavirus cases with 1,081.
