Penguins second-round pick Joel Blomqvist

The NHL wrapped up its virtual draft on Wednesday, and the Penguins added five new players to their prospect pool.

Here's a look at who they chose, what Penguins amateur scouting director Patrik Allvin had to say about the player, and a link to our full coverage of the player:

SECOND ROUND, No. 52
Joel Blomqvist
Position: Goaltender
Size: 6-1, 183
Team: Karpat (Liiga)
Allvin's take: "Blomqvist, I'd compare him to Tristan Jarry at this point. Really calm, a play-reader. Really athletic. He needs to get stronger, as most of the young kids."

THIRD ROUND, No. 77
Calle Clang
Position: Goaltender
Size: 6-2, 194
Team: Kristianstads IK (Allsvenskan)
Allvin's take: "Might be a little further ahead in his body composition (than Blomqvist). A real competitive player, and he's a play-reader as well."

FOURTH ROUND, No. 108
Lukas Svejkovsky
Position: Center/right wing
Size: 5-10, 165
Team: Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)
Allvin's take: "He has hockey sense, his skill level, and also a good skater."

FIFTH ROUND
Raivis Ansons
Position: Wing
Size: 6-1, 185
Team: Baie-Comeau Drakkar (QMJHL)
Allvin's take: "Size, speed, and we do think that there is more production to come for him."

SIXTH ROUND
Chase Yoder
Position: Center
Size: 5-11, 174
Team: USNTDP
Allvin's take: "A hard-working, two-way, energy player. More of a fourth-line, potential upside. Really strong leader, strong character. We're excited about the players we got today."
Story: Yoder draws comparisons to Tanev, Blueger

"We're excited about all of the players that we got today," Allvin said of the Penguins' 2020 draft class.

The Penguins made two trades involving picks in the draft. They traded their own fifth-round pick (139 overall) to the Avalanche for the Avalanche's fifth-round pick (149 overall) and seventh-round pick (211 overall). The Penguins then traded that seventh-round pick to the Capitals for the Capitals' own seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

As a result, the Penguins now own five picks in the 2021 draft -- Their own second-round pick, their own fifth-round pick, their own seventh-round pick, the Ducks' seventh-round pick (acquired in the Erik Gudbranson trade), and the Capitals' seventh-round pick. The Penguins' 2021 first-round pick was sent to Minnesota in the Jason Zucker trade, the third-round pick was sent to San Jose in the Patrick Marleau trade, the fourth-round pick was sent to Arizona in the Phil Kessel trade, and the sixth-round pick was sent to Edmonton in the John Marino trade.
