The Penguins have named Ron Hextall general manager and Brian Burke president of hockey operations, Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle announced Tuesday.
"We feel incredibly lucky to bring in two highly-respected executives with a combined 50-plus years of NHL management experience," said president and CEO David Morehouse. "Ron and Brian are well-known in the hockey world as fierce competitors with championship pedigrees. They're very well-connected and experienced in all aspects of the game. They are both excited to get to work here in Pittsburgh, blending their skills and building on our long tradition of success."
Hextall will report to Burke as his primary advisor, and Burke will report to Morehouse. Patrik Allvin will remain assistant general manager.
"It's an honor to be joining the Pittsburgh Penguins - an organization well-known for its excellence on and off the ice," Hextall said. "I look forward to working with ownership, Brian and the entire organization toward the ultimate goal of bringing another Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh."
Hextall, 56, was previously in his first season as a senior advisor for the Kings.
Hextall was previously the general manager of the Flyers from 2014-18, and served as the assistant general manager and director of hockey operations for a year before that. He spent six seasons as the Kings' assistant general manager and vice president of hockey operations from 2006-13. His first front office role was that of a pro scout with the Flyers from 1999-02, moving to the Flyers' director of player personnel from 2002-06.
