Why Saints remain Steelers' best, and maybe only, option to trade back in first round taken on the South Side (Steelers)

I've made my case for why the Steelers should consider trading back in the first round. The NFL Draft is especially deep in multiple positions of need and having three picks on day two could help find more immediate help.

But after the Chiefs traded away their 31st overall pick to the Ravens, the list of teams who could partner for such a trade looks slimmer than it did weeks ago. Here are all the team that pick after the Steelers in the first round:

25. Jaguars
26. Browns
27. Ravens
28. Saints
29. Packers
30. Bills
31. Ravens
32. Buccaneers

You can eliminate the Browns and the Ravens, leaving the Steelers with only four real teams to trade back with in the Saints, Packers, Bills and Buccaneers.

But the Saints have needs in this draft that clash with a few of the teams who pick between them and the Steelers that could make them anxious draft night. The team has several holes on defense, needing a second cornerback, a new starting edge rusher, and an athletic linebacker.

And according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo, they have a specific player in mind:

Caleb Farley might've been this year's undisputed to cornerback had he not opted out of the 2020 season and needed multiple recent back surgeries. I mocked him as the Jets' pick at 23 this week, but he could still be available when the Steelers pick. Even if he's not, the Saints' need for a linebacker like Zaven Collins or Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could also have their eyes on a top talent this year.

The Browns pick at 26, and have similar needs that could make the Saints want to get ahead of them. If that happens and the Steelers' preferred picks are gone, Kevin Colbert should be ready to negotiate and see about picking up their second or third round picks.
