The Penguins on Thursday bolstered their goaltending depth with the signing of Louis Domingue to a one-year, two-way contract worth the league-minimum $750,000 at the NHL level.
Domingue would require waivers to be assigned to the minors.
Domingue, 29, spent last season in the Flames' organization, appearing in one NHL game and three AHL games with Calgary's affiliate in Stockton. He spent much of the year on Calgary's taxi squad. He was a backup goaltender for the Devils in the 2019-20 season, going 3-8-2 in 16 appearances with a .882 save percentage and a 3.79 goals-against average.
Domingue was a fifth-round pick of the Coyotes in 2010, and has appeared in 140 NHL games with the Coyotes, Lightning, Devils, Canucks, and Flames in his nine-year professional career.
Domingue is 6 foot 3, 208 pounds, and catches right-handed.
With the signing of Domingue, the Penguins' NHL-contracted depth goaltenders who will be playing in North America next season are Domingue, Alex D'Orio, and Filip Lindberg. D'Orio, 22, took over as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's starter in the second half of last season and posted a 6-3-2 record, a 2.18 goals-against average, and a .915 save percentage in 11 AHL appearances. Lindberg, 22, will be making his professional debut next season after last playing for the NCAA champion UMass Minutemen. The Penguins' 2020 draft picks Joel Blomqvist and Calle Clang will remain in Europe for the upcoming season. Tommy Nappier, 23, remains in the organization on an AHL contract after being signed to a three-year AHL deal out of Ohio State in March.
