Led by first-year head coach Dru Joyce III, the Duquesne University men's basketball team posted an overall record of 13-19 (.406) in 2024-25, including a mark of 8-10 (.444) in the Atlantic 10.
The season in review:
• Despite an 0-6 start to the year, the Dukes picked up their first victory of the Dru Joyce III era in their final game of the 2024 Cayman Islands Classic with a 67-54 triumph over Old Dominion (Nov. 26) at John Jay Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman.
• The win over the Monarchs began a run in which Duquesne won nine of 12 to even its overall record at 9-9, including 4-1 (.800) in conference play. Included in that stretch was a 65-47 victory over Towson (Dec. 14) at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, as well as a 70-54 triumph over UC Irvine (Dec. 21) at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
• Towson claimed the 2025 Colonial Athletic Association regular-season championship, while UC Irvine finished 32-7 (.821) and fell in overtime in the title game of the 2025 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), 85-84, to Chattanooga. In all, a total of nine of Duquesne's opponents in 2024-25 appeared in a postseason tournament, including Lipscomb and VCU in the NCAA Championship, UC Irvine, Saint Joseph's, St. Bonaventure, Dayton, Loyola Chicago and Saint Louis in the NIT and George Washington in the College Basketball Crown. The Dukes posted a record of 6-8 (.429) against teams in a 2025 postseason field.
• Duquesne was led by senior guard Tre Dinkins III during the 2024-25 campaign, who averaged 12.9 points on the strength of 77 three-pointers. He ranked ninth in the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goals made per game (2.41) and 14th in three-point field goal percentage (.379). Dinkins III also dished out 100 assists, an average of 3.13 per game to rank 14th in the circuit, and also sat 10th in the A-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.75). Dinkins closed out the year by reaching double figures in 17 consecutive games.
• Sophomore guard Jake DiMichele averaged 10.9 over the course of the first seven games of the 2024-25 season before suffering a season-ending injury, which opened a spot in the rotation for redshirt junior guard Cam Crawford.
• In 29 games, including 22 starts, Crawford became the second member of the Dukes to lead the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goal percent accuracy in the last three years, converting 43.1 percent (44-for-102) of his attempts from beyond the arc. He contributed an average of 8.6 points per contest, including a season-high 16 in an 85-68 win over George Mason, and overall during the year shot 44.5 percent (89-for-200) from the floor.
• As a team, the Dukes finished fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense, yielding an average of 67.3 points per game. Duquesne also ranked in the top five in the conference in four other categories, including fourth in turnover margin (1.34) and fifth in three-point field goals made per game (8.38), offensive rebounds (11.7) and blocked shots (4.25).
• Junior guard Kareem Rozier eclipsed 250 career assists thanks to five dimes against just one turnover at St. Bonaventure (Feb. 22) and was one of the best in NCAA Division I during the 2024-25 season protecting the rock. Not only did Rozier lead the Atlantic 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio overall (3.09), the total ranked 10th in the country. During his career on the Bluff, Rozier played in 90 consecutive games for Duquesne and appeared in his 100th game at Saint Louis (March 8), becoming the first player for the Dukes to reach the plateau since Eric James (2014-18) in 2018.
• The 2024-25 season marked the 109th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II).
• The closest member of the Dukes to 1,000 career points is redshirt junior guard Maximus Edwards, who concluded the 2024-25 season just 14 points shy of the mark (986). Named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Edwards scored 722 in two seasons at George Washington before transferring to the Bluff and scored 264 points in his first season at Duquesne.
