Former Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is attempting an NHL comeback, according to TSN analyst Pierre LeBrun, citing Toews' agent Pat Brisson. LeBrun wrote that Brisson has been contacting teams and that Toews has been working out in preparation.
Toews, 37, retired in April 2023, diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, due to complications from long COVID. Toews missed all of the 2020 season, then battled through excessive fatigue and body aches during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, during which he played 124 games but saw a dramatic decrease in production.
Toews spent his entire 15-season career with the Blackhawks, recording 372 goals and 511 assists in 1,067 games.
Best of luck to him. It's a gamble for both the player and team. His experience as a three-time Cup winner is invaluable, but he can't be relied on as a key piece.
