Some drama for Team Poland as all-time leading scorer Robert Lewandowski has informed the country's soccer federation that he will no longer participate on the national team until head coach Michał Probierz.
Lewandowski's beef with Probierz erupted when the coach stripped Lewandowski of his team captaincy after he informed the coach that his recently finished La Liga season, during which he battled a late hamstring injury, left him unable to participate in a friendly and Tuesday's World Cup qualifying match against Finland. In his words: "Returning from injury, I told Coach Probierz that I did not feel good physically, but especially mentally."
Poland is atop their qualifying group with six points —two wins in two matches. Finland is currently second in Group G with a win, loss, and a draw through three matches. They might not need Lewandowski now, but as things heat up and with the World Cup just 53 weeks away, Poland will want Lewandowski's experience (158 caps) and goals (85) on the roster, even at age 36. Let's see if he has the juice to get a comeptent coach fired or if he'll come to an "understanding" and return to the team at some point in the near furture.
