The Penguins are set to practice at 3 p.m. Eastern here in Anaheim on Wednesday. I’ll have live updates below.
• Hayes is expressing concern in the locker room over knocking out Malkin in the keepaway game because he doesn’t want to be on his bad side. Apparently they had an alliance to start but when it came down to the end, Hayes went back on it and took him out. He’s again reminding everyone that he’s “2-for-2,” so he doesn’t feel too bad.
• First power play: Matt Grzelcyk, Sidney Crosby, Rickard Rakell, Bryan Rust, Michael Bunting.
• Second power play: Erik Karlsson, Kris Letang, Phil Tomasino, Kevin Hayes, Evgeni Malkin.
• Penguins’ lines and pairings with Rickard Rakell back:
Rickard Rakell - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust Michael Bunting - Evgeni Malkin - Cody Glass Anthony Beauvillier - Kevin Hayes - Phil Tomasino Drew O’Connor - Blake Lizotte - Noel Acciari/Matt Nieto
Marcus Pettersson - Kris Letang Matt Grzelcyk - Erik Karlsson Owen Pickering - P.O Joseph Ryan Graves - Ryan Shea
• Mike Sullivan just now: "We're 15 minutes in here, let's get the pace level up. We're too slow now."
• Kevin Hayes just scored in a drill and turned to Malkin and said, "you see that goal?" Now he's just trying to provoke him. Malkin just smiled and skated away.
• Kevin Hayes wins the Penguins' keepaway game to start practice and is rewarded with a big "f--- you" from Evgeni Malkin, who was one of the last few remaining, haha. Anytime Malkin gets knocked out of one of these, he has to argue the call. Hayes, who won this game when they did it recently, pointed out to Malkin that he's "2-for-2."
• Rickard Rakell, who returned to Pittsburgh before the Kings game because his pregnant wife Emmeli was hospitalized, is on the ice for practice. Emmeli was released from the hospital yesterday and shared that she's "on the right track."
• The Ducks practiced later than expected so the Penguins won’t be getting on the ice until closer to 4 p.m. Eastern now.
• Just caught up with Brian Dumoulin and Jansen Harkins, who are loving their time here in Anaheim. I’ll have more on that later. Big news is Dumoulin is the DJ here too and Harkins recently acquired a kitten.
