Canada was eliminated from the World Championship on Thursday in a 2-1 loss to Denmark in the quarterfinals, a loss the IIHF website called the “greatest upset in the tournament’s history.”
Sidney Crosby assisted on Canada’s lone goal from Travis Sanheim. Denmark’s two goals came in the final three minutes. Marc-Andre Fleury backed up Jordan Binnington, who stopped 31 of 33 shots.
“I’m disappointed,” Crosby said. “We got better as the tournament went on. I don’t think tonight was necessarily our best but we still found a way to give ourselves a lead. ... It was a pretty tough environment here, a road game. We got the lead and were in a pretty good spot but it turned pretty quick.”
