It's officially the offseason for the Penguins, and some players are already on their way to different vacation destinations around the world.
Earlier in the year I asked players about their favorite vacation spots for this Survey Says. Here's how they answered:
Sidney Crosby: “Italy.”
Noel Acciari: “I mean, now with having kids it’s probably Disney, they love it. They're getting older now, so the rides and my daughter loves the princesses. Growing up, that's something I never did, just go visit princesses, so it's different for me. But it's fun to see her get so excited, and then get so excited to see the characters. And now going on some of the rides, you see it in a different light, and it's fun to see.”
Matt Dumba: “Africa.”
Stuart Skinner: “Probably Hawaii, then right after is Mexico.”
Harrison Brunicke: “I went to London when I was a kid, that was pretty cool. Then also Mauritius. My family is from South Africa, so we went there as a big holiday. It’s an island, that was pretty cool.”
Kris Letang: “I would say … Italy.”
Jack St. Ivany: “Costa Rica. It’s got goof surf, went there a couple of times with my family. It’s a nice time.”
Bryan Rust: “Turks and Caicos.”
Ben Kindel: “I went to Italy once and really enjoyed it there, so I’d say there.”
Joona Koppanen: “Nice, in France.”
Ryan Graves: “Oh my God, I don’t go on any vacations. Every year we say we’re going to go away, and then we go home and it’s nice, and we don’t go away. I’d love to go to Europe, like Portugal or Italy. I’ve never been but I want to go.”
Tristan Jarry: “We like Valemount, (British Columbia). It’s quiet. The water’s crystal clear, and we like to spend time on the boat there. It’s just nice to be on the boat and have some nice water, it’s really enjoyable.”
Justin Brazeau: “We went to the Bahamas last year, that was pretty fun.”
Ryan Shea: “Amelia Island, in Florida. My mom’s side of the family, all the siblings have had a place there for awhile, so that’s where we went the most when we were kids. Anywhere in Florida, though.”
Blake Lizotte: “I’d say Mexico. Cancun, Cabo, anywhere in the sun.”
Anthony Mantha: “We really love Baha Mar in the Bahamas as a family destination kind of place. Then my favorite trip was probably Italy for my honeymoon.”
Tommy Novak: “I would say Cabo, Mexico.”
Connor Dewar: “The best vacation I’ve been on is probably Turks and Caicos.”
Parker Wotherspoon: “It's a tough one. I love so many. Probably Italy is the No. 1 I’ve been to. I love Hawaii though, I went there this summer. Honestly, it just kind of depends on what I'm feeling. Italy was awesome. France is incredible. I love Europe. That's hard to beat, but it's a little bit of trek. It's more like sightseeing, not totally relaxing. But then you go to Hawaii, you're just relaxing. So it just depends on what you like. But yeah, I love traveling.”
Arturs Silovs: “I’ll say Italy, Lake Como is nice. I think Portugal is nice too. I haven’t traveled really to South America, or even really too much in North America other than with the team. I like southern Europe.”
Ville Koivunen: “A lake home.”
Rickard Rakell: “I think Cancun, Mexico.”
Rutger McGroarty: (Ville Koivunen: Say Finland!) “No. Crane Lake, in Ontario. My family friends have a really cool cottage here, and my family loves going up once or twice in the summer.”
Sergei Murashov: “The mountains, wherever in the mountains. I love in Russia, it’s called Altai. A really nice, beautiful place.”
Kevin Hayes: “St. Barts.”
Erik Karlsson: “My favorite vacation spot right now is Disney World, but in general probably Australia.”
Connor Clifton: “I’m from out east, right? I'm from Jersey. I’ve spent summers in Jersey and Boston. So, like, just because I'm out east, we always end up in the Caribbean some way, right? Like All-Star breaks, it's always the Caribbean. So we've done a couple. I think my favorite so far has been Jamaica. I went in college, actually, later than I usually go on vacation. So it was hot, and it was just so empty because not a lot of people were there because of the heat. But it was amazing, just because it honestly felt exclusive, just because we went at a time no one else does. So that one was pretty memorable. (Me: The way you started that I was worried you were about to say, like, Atlantic City.) I’ve been there one time!”
