It was a tough news day for the Penguins with the Sidney Crosby injury, so it's a good time for some levity and another Survey Says.
For this one, I thought it would be fun to ask a question that would dive into the interpersonal dynamics between different players, so I asked: Which teammate would you choose to be your emergency contact?
Here's how the Penguins players (and some now-former players) answered.
Kevin Hayes: “Noel Acciari. I’ve known Cookie since I was about eight years old, he’s always looking out for me. I truly believe I’m the only player in the NHL he hasn’t hit.”
Noel Acciari: “Probably Hayesy.”
Harrison Brunicke: “Maybe Dumba. I live with Kindel, but he is so bad with his phone, it’s actually ridiculous. I actually needed help one day, and I call (Pickering). He didn’t answer. My next call was to Sid, and he answered right away. So my emergency contact might be him!”
Connor Dewar: “I’d say Parker Wotherspoon, he’s just a reliable guy, pretty straight to the point.”
Blake Lizotte: “Oh, Sid for sure. He’s so responsible.”
Brett Kulak: (Me: And you can’t pick Stu! You came here together.) “I’ll say Sid. He’d be able to help me out of a pinch, any problem I ran into in the area.”
Stuart Skinner: (Me: You can’t pick Kulak, that’s cheating) “I would for sure pick Kuly. But after that, I’d pick Lizzo. Just automatically, we had a really good connection right when I came in. We sit beside each other at the rinks, we’ve gotten a chance to bond. I know that he’s an extremely trustworthy guy. I know he’s going to pick up.”
Sam Poulin: “Probably Hayesy. He seems like a good guy to have support when you need it.”
Connor Clifton: “Let’s see, it’s a good question. Lizzo. (Me: Why him?) Why not him? He’d be there for you. It’d be great.”
Ryan Shea: “Noel Acciari. Anytime I’ve asked in the past for something, whether it’s using his truck or car or if I need anything, he’s always like, ‘Yeah sure, when do you need it?’ He’s like that with everyone.”
Joona Koppanen: “Who would I say would be reliable … probably Sid, yeah. He’d pick up the phone, he’s a responsible guy.”
Tristan Jarry: “Probably Sidney. He’s always got his phone on him … secretly.”
Erik Karlsson: “Raks. He’s reliable and responsible.”
Danton Heinen: “Probably Hayes. He’s a responsible guy, he would just be there. He could help you out if you needed it, get you out of a pinch.”
Parker Wotherspoon: “Hmm … who is reliable? It’s got to be Brazeau. Oh, no, I’m taking that back. Heinen, for sure. We’ve known each other for a while, we actually live in the same building back home.”
Arturs Silovs: “I think Rusty, he’s a responsible one. He’d pick up the phone. There’s a lot of guys I would question, I wouldn’t give my emergency to them.”
Ryan Graves: “Sid, he’d come at any moment. You never know what he’s doing, but he’d always be there. He’d by my first call.”
Rickard Rakell: “I think Gravy. He’s a responsible human being.”
Tommy Novak: “Probably Tomasino. (Me: He’s picking up the phone?) Maybe. Probably? Maybe Brunicke, he’d respond.”
Justin Brazeau: “It’d be an older guy … It might be Bryan Rust right here. I think he would be responsible enough. He has a couple kids. I don’t trust him, but I think he’d answer the phone at least.”
Bryan Rust: “Tommy Novak. He seems to be one of the most responsible guys in the room. … Mine is NOT Braz.”
Ben Kindel: “Maybe Parker Wotherspoon, he’s a good guy.”
Rutger McGroarty: “Boko Imama. He would have my back no matter what!”
Anthony Mantha: “I feel like Hayes. He’s always on his phone, so he’d at least answer.”
Sergei Murashov: “Oh, Sid, for sure. If he’s available, he’ll help at any time, any point, for sure.”
Ville Koivunen: “Probably (Hallander). He’s a responsible guy. I’m Finnish, he’s Swedish, it’s almost the same thing.”
Matt Dumba: “I’m going Connor Clifton, we’ve been hanging out a lot lately.”
Jack St. Ivany: “I would say Ryan Shea. He lives near me, I’m pretty close with him. It’d be him. I don’t know if he’s the most responsible, Sid would probably be the right call. But my first call would be Ryan.”
Phil Tomasino: “Oh my God, I feel like Rusty would be pretty trustworthy. I know Picks would definitely be the last guy. The guy is always on his phone but never answers his phone.”
Sidney Crosby: “I’d have to go Tanger. But he's on the phone a lot, so I worry about that, because he might not take the call. But I know if I got ahold of him, he'd be helpful, but it's just getting ahold of him. It's the exact same thing with Geno. It's between those two. But Hayes, he's right there. Hayes is picking up. It’s a close one, I’ve got to go with Hayes because he’s for sure picking up.”
Kris Letang: “Sid. Just for friendship, he knows me. There’s not many people you can trust, and he’s one of them for me. (Me: He said he’d like to say you, but he worries about getting ahold of you.) He knows I have my phone all the time! He should not be worried about that.”
