The Penguins signed left-handed defenseman Declan Carlile to a two-year deal with a $1.5 million cap hit.
Carlile, listed at 6 foot 3 and 192 pounds, is 26 years old but was a Group 6 unrestricted free agent as a result of not playing enough games to qualify for restricted free agency. He split last season between the Lightning and their AHL affiliate in Syracuse. He skated in 42 games with Tampa and recorded one goal and two assists, and had 16 games in Syracuse, scoring two goals and nine assists.
Carlile represented Team USA at the World Championship in Switzerland this year, picking up one goal and two assists in five games.
