As the Penguins' offseason rolls on, here are some key dates still to be aware of over the coming months:
June 1-7: NHL scouting combine in Buffalo, N.Y., with the main fitness testing and media availability taking place over the final two days.
June 15: Signing deadline for some drafted prospects, for Penguins this only applies to OHL forward Cooper Foster.
June 15: First buyout period opens either on this date or 48 hours after the Cup is awarded, whichever is later, and runs through June 30.
June 15: Deadline for first team-elected salary arbitration on this date or 48 hours after the Cup is awarded, whichever is later.
June 23: Last possible day for Stanley Cup to be awarded
June 27-28: Draft, following a de-centralized format with teams staying in their home cities and conducting the picks virtually.
Late June: Penguins development camp. Dates, format, roster still to be determined.
June 30: Qualifying offers due for restricted free agents.
July 1: Free agency opens at noon Eastern.
July 5: Deadline for any player-elected salary arbitration.
July 6: Deadline for second team-elected salary arbitration.
July 20-Aug. 4: Salary arbitration hearings.
Aug. 15: Signing deadline for drafted college prospects in final year of school, for Penguins this only applies to Providence College forward Chase Yoder.
Mid-September: Nothing official yet, but expect the Penguins to once again participate in the Buffalo Prospects Challenge, with a brief rookie camp to be held before making the trip.
