Van Riemsdyk, 34, is a 6-foot-3, 209-pound defensive defenseman who has spent the last six years with the Capitals. He skated in 68 games with Washington this past season, scoring three goals and 11 assists. Of the 10 defensemen to play for the Capitals, he had the third-best share of expected goals for at 50.53%, trailing only John Carlson and Jakob Chychrun. He had the second-highest rate of defensive zone starts of their regular defensemen.
