The Penguins and Blues made a trade of prospects on Thursday, with the Penguins sending forward Corey Andonovski to the Blues in exchange for forward Mathias Laferriere.
Laferriere, 24, is a right-handed center and winger who was the Blues' sixth-round pick in 2018 and is listed at 6 foot 2 and 181 pounds. He is set to be a Group 6 unrestricted free agent this summer -- a designation for players who are at least 25 years old when their contract expires and would typically be of the age for restricted free agency, but hit unrestricted free agency earlier because of not meeting a threshold for NHL games played.
Laferriere has spent his four-year professional career with the Blues' AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, where he has amassed 21 goals and 49 assists in 207 total games. He has two goals and eight assists in 33 games this season.
Andonovski, 25, is a winger who the Penguins signed as an undrafted free agent out of Princeton in 2022, and had spent his entire three-year professional career with Wilkes-Barre with a total of 18 goals.
