After Jansen Harkins wasn't re-signed by the Penguins in the offseason, he inked a one-way, two-year deal with the Ducks in free agency. He's spent part of this season in the AHL with San Diego, racking up five goals and 12 assists in 11 games, but for the most part has been with the NHL club, where he has a goal and three assists in 34 games.
I caught up with Harkins after the Ducks' practice in Anaheim, Calif. on Wednesday, and he's loving his new home.
"I'm just enjoying being close to the water again and on the West Coast, it's easy for my family and friends and stuff like that," said Harkins, who is from British Columbia. "So it's been really nice. And the guys are great, it's a bit of a younger team. I think the energy's been great the whole year. The fit's been pretty easy."
Harkins had a great time with the Penguins too, and he's looking forward to seeing some of his former teammates on Thursday.
"I really enjoyed everything about Pittsburgh and all the guys, especially," he said. "I still keep in touch with quite a few, and haven't had a chance to see many of them yet, so it'll be just nice to see some familiar faces."
