Harrison Brunicke was one of seven players who were not one of the initial 15 players named to Canada's World Championship roster but invited to skate with the team in pre-tournament action.
Canada opens up its pre-tournament play today against Austria in Vienna, and Brunicke is skating on the right side of the third defense pairing along Nicolas Beaudin, a former Blackhawk and Canadiens prospect who spent last season in Czechia.
Brunicke remains a long shot to make the final roster as it gets filled out with NHL players eliminated from the playoffs in the coming days, but this pre-tournament play is great experience for him regardless.
The World Championship is set for May 9-25 in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark. No Penguins players have been confirmed to be participating yet.
