• Blake Lizotte is on the ice for the start of the third.
• Blake Lizotte dropped to block a shot in the final seconds of the second, big shot that hit him in the left foot. He wasn't putting any weight on it to get off the ice as the period ended and had to be pushed off by P.O Joseph
• End of the second, Penguins trail 3-2. They'll have 12 seconds left to kill on the too many men minor to open the third.
• The power play is cut short with 39 seconds remaining in it. Too many men penalty on the Penguins, Michael Bunting will serve.
• Penguins get a power play with 3:10 left in the second. Juha Jaaska sits for two for interference.
• GOAL: Hurricanes take he lead. Seth Jarvis from a few feet out in the slot. Rickard Rakell was right on him but couldn't knock him off the puck. Nice pass from Andrei Svechnikov. Hurricanes 3, Penguins 2
• GOAL: Hurricanes tie it. Bryan Rust had a partial breakaway the other way, it got broken up, I think he was looking for a slash or a hooking call to come. Seemed like a few guys paused briefly and it allowed the Hurricanes to get a rush up the other way, Jalen Chatfield finishes it. Penguins 2, Hurricanes 2
• Think Kevin Hayes may have hurt his hand on the last shift. Staying on the bench but getting looked at by an athletic trainer.
• Power play comes to an end. Couple shots, some good zone time, but no dice.
• Penguins get a power play with 11:28 left in the second. Jordan Martinook sits for two for tripping P.O Joseph.
• GOAL: Hurricanes cut the Penguins' lead in half. Seth Javis from Sebastian Aho, came off an odd-man rush against Erik Karlsson and Matt Grzelcyk. Penguins 2, Hurricanes 1.
• Second period is underway.
• P.O Joseph has a third of the Penguins' nine blocked shots so far.
• Real jerseys I've seen in the crowd so far: One that says BAJABLAST on the back and another one that says GRIMACE. The latter was wearing a Grimace costume that looked like it cost $20 under the jersey.
• End of the first. Penguin lead 2-0 with goals from Kevin Hayes and Michael Bunting. Shots are 9-5 Hurricanes.
• Penguins kill the penalty.
• Penguins to the PK with 2:02 left in the first. Blake Lizotte for two for cross-checking Jackson Blake. Egregious.
• Dustin Tokarski was having a mask issue and just swapped it out during a stoppage for his old Sabres one. Fun.
• TV timeout comes with 8:45 left in the first, shots are just 4-3 Hurricanes.
• GOAL: And another one. Michael Bunting from the slot, he finishes a feed from Erik Karlsson. That's two goals on three shots. Penguins, 2-0
• GOAL: The third line of Kevin Hayes, Drew O'Connor and Anthony Beauvillier get a 3-on-1 and Hayes fires it in. Great to see from him after he had a really good game in Florida in his return to the lineup. That was the Penguins' first shot on goal, too. Penguins 1, Hurricanes 0
• This game is certainly open early. Already a couple chances traded in either direction within the first minute. Only one hit the net, the Hurricanes had a shot that Alex Nedeljkovic got a pad on.
• Penguins and Hurricanes are underway.
• And the Hurricanes' lines and pairings:
Jack Roslovic - Sebastian Aho - Seth Jarvis Eric Robinson - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Martin Necas Andrei Svechnikov - Jordan Staal - Jordan Martinook Juha Jaaska - Jack Drury - Jackson Blake
Jaccob Slavin - Brent Burns Dmitry Orlov - Jalen Chatfield Ty Smith - Sean Walker
• Here are the Penguins' lines and pairings. Kris Letang is in, but the defense pairings look slightly different than yesterday's practice. Marcus Pettersson is on the top pairing, and Owen Pickering is with P.O Joseph on the third. Pettersson and Pickering were flipped yesterday.
Rickard Rakell - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust Michael Bunting - Evgeni Malkin - Cody Glass Drew O'Connor - Kevin Hayes - Anthony Beauvillier Matt Nieto - Blake Lizotte - Noel Acciari
Marcus Pettersson - Kris Letang Matt Grzelcyk - Erik Karlsson Owen Pickering - P.O Joseph
• Cool to see Dustin Tokarski back in the NHL. Counting AHL teams, this is his 17th team. Guy has been everywhere. Always nice to deal with when he was in the Penguins' system.
• Hi from Raleigh. Kris Letang is on the ice for warmups.
