Kyle Dubas wasn’t done working after the NHL trade deadline. The Penguins then signed Ryan Shea to a one-year extension for next season that carries a $900,000 cap hit.
Shea, 28, has two goals and three assists in 28 games this season and has seen stretches elevated to the top pairing.
I asked Mike Sullivan before the game against the Golden Knights what he's seen from Shea to have him worthy of an extension.
"Ryan's played very well for us," Sullivan told me. "You look at his play most recently, we've had him in the top four, and he's done a really good job. He competes hard. He plays the game with with some moxie. He makes a mistake, it doesn't bother him. He moves by it. That's an important element, I think, just having that resilience from a mindset standpoint when you're trying to establish yourself in this league. He's earned that contract. We're happy for him."
