The Penguins signed winger Rafael Harvey-Pinard to a one-year contract worth the league-minimum $775,000.
Harvey-Pinard, 26, is a five-year pro whose career has primarily been spent in the AHL to this point, amassing a total of 185 career AHL games and 84 in the NHL, all with the Canadiens' organization. He spent the majority of last season in the AHL, recording 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) in 50 games with the Laval Rocket, and went scoreless in one game up with Montreal. He skated in 13 playoff games with the Rocket, recording just three assists. He spent the entire 2023-24 season in the NHL with Montreal, where he recorded 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 45 games.
Harvey-Pinard would seem to be more AHL depth, someone who could fill out Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's roster and serve as competition for the young players who will also be pushing for spots. But at only 26 years old, he's young enough where if he pans out, he could conceivably be part of the longer-term plan here.
