Rutger McGroarty, Tommy Novak, Blake Lizotte, Noel Acciari and Matt Nieto will all miss the remainder of the regular season due to injury.
P.O Joseph (upper body) skated on his own this morning before practice, but there's no firm update on him. The fact that he was left off the list of players out of the season suggests there's a chance he returns before the seasons wraps up.
Phil Tomasino, who also skated on his own this morning, is still in the concussion protocol.
Novak (foot) and Lizotte (lower body) were both considered day to day prior to today, but their seasons are done. There was no explanation for Acciari or Nieto from Mike Sullivan, despite both players finishing the previous game without incident.
Regarding the five players who are done for the year, Sullivan didn't have any information on how bad their respective injuries are or if any of them might need surgery.
"I'm not at that stage yet," Sullivan said. "Obviously the regular season is a week. So, you can take that for what it is."
McGroarty, who was wearing a boot on his left foot after blocking a shot in the 5-0 win over the Blackhawks on Tuesday night, is perhaps the most disappointing player to miss the remainder of the NHL season. He recorded three points in five games since being recalled from Wilkes Barre/Scranton, and the coaching staff was happy with his play during this stretch.
Sullivan did say McGroarty has a chance to recover and rejoin Wilkes Barre/Scranton if they play deep enough into the AHL playoffs.
"Yeah, it's disappointing because he was playing really well," Sullivan said. "We thought it was a great experience for him to get NHL games. We're hopeful Rutger's injury will come around. We're hopeful that Wilkes Barre will play long enough that he'll have an opportunity to help them continue to have success down there. That's an important experience for him, as well."
