Drive to the Net: Jarry's ice-level excellence often portends
There's no need to take this too far, so I won't.
But if there's one fair takeaway from Tristan Jarry's best-player-on-the-ice performance in the Penguins' 3-1 victory over the Wild today at Xcel Energy Center, it might be this: When he's been this good, at any stage of his star-crossed NHL career, it's because he's been great at ice level.
Meaning with his stick blade and legs:
Right. Like that. All three of those and a bunch more amid the 30 saves he'd make. Left to right like lightning, all while keeping his shoulders up and square to the shooter. And when he's found that form, even just within a game, he tends to fare well.
It's a trend I've tracked for years with him, and I asked him about it afterward:
"Yeah, I think just being able to make those saves in tight and put those rebounds into good places helps our defensemen," he replied to that. "I think it just helps our team as a whole when I'm making saves like that back there."
Again, that's all I'll say for now. I spotted this in the first few minutes here and felt ... wow, frighteningly certain this was how the game would go, believe it or not. Because I don't know that I've ever seen him exhibit this specific trait, then struggle.

Good for him.
