Sergei Murashov improved to 8-0 in the AHL this season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 5-4 shootout win over the Hershey Bears in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on Wednesday.
Murashov stopped 31 of 35 shots, and all five Bears shooters faced in the shootout. He now has a .925 save percentage and a 2.34 goals-against average in his eight AHL appearances. The previous Wilkes-Barre franchise record for most wins by a goaltender to start his AHL career was six. Murashov now has eight (and counting)
Ville Koivunen's 20th goal of the year opened the scoring, and Rutger McGroarty netted his 13th on the power play shortly after. Mathias Laferriere scored his fifth, and Avery Hayes his 17th.
Koivunen, Tristan Broz, Boris Katchouk and Vasily Ponomarev were all stopped in the shootout before Sam Poulin scored the shootout-winner.
McGroarty had eight shots on goal, a new career-high. His previous high was seven, set on Feb. 26. Jack St. Ivany and Valtteri Puustinen each had two assists. Chase Stillman, acquired in the Cody Glass trade, picked up his first point as a Penguin in his third game, recording the secondary assist on Laferriere's goal.
