Sergei Murashov on Saturday made his first start since his latest recall to the AHL, and stopped 29 of 30 shots in a 2-1 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton win over the Utica Comets.
Murashov was tested heavily early, with the Comets recording 13 shots in the first 14 minutes of the game. That 13th shot was the one to beat Murashov and open the scoring. Rutger McGroarty tied the game later in the first period with his sixth goal of the year, set up by Dan Renouf and Ville Koivunen. After a scoreless second period, Vasily Ponomarev scored his seventh goal in the year early in the third period, and that one stood as the game-winner. Jesse Puljujarvi and Valtteri Puustinen earned assists.
Owen Pickering, having been re-assigned only earlier in the day, wasn't back in time to play. But with Pickering on his way back down, Isaac Belliveau was re-assigned to Wheeling prior to the game.
