Arkansas commit McLane Moody from Northside Senior High School (Ark.) was selected by the Pirates with the 443rd overall pick in the 15th round. But will he make it to Pittsburgh?
Like with Connor Hamilton, the Pirates' 14th-round pick, Moody has options. He's 18 and stands at a towering 6-7 and 200 pounds. He's also ranked as the fourth-overall prospect in Arkansas, per Perfect Game. He has a fastball that has been clocked at 96 mph, and he was listed at No. 354 by Baseball America, which described him as a "hyper projectable right-hander" with a "frame and arm talent to dream on."
"He seems to have the innate ability to spin the ball and it flashes some solid biting action at its best," Baseball America stated in their ranking. "He’s also a good athlete and at one point played quarterback in high school before deciding to focus on baseball. Moody could check the box as a deep projection candidate worth taking a flier on for a team willing to buy him out of a longstanding commitment to in-state Arkansas."
