Just got off a Zoom call with Seth Hernandez. There's a lot to like about him. He's got a very calm demeanor, as one might expect with him coming from California. He said he had a couple of good meetings with the Pirates and had a desire to join the organization because of Paul Skenes and Jared Jones.
"It was always kind of a dream to be there, being able to pick the brains of Skenes and Jared Jones, so I kind of always wanted to be there," Hernandez said. "Obviously, with the Pirates, a great organization. So, being able to be picked by them was super surreal. But also being able to share the field with those guys is super cool. So being able to come here was a dream come true."
A cool note: Hernandez played on the same travel team as Jonesand got to meet him at a banquet a few years ago: "We had a BPA banquet, which is my travel team, and he was there, met him there. At the time, he was like 'Yea, man. I hope you come to Pittsburgh with me to be able to do that.' So, he kind of spoke it into existence in a way."
