The Pirates are hiring Kristopher Negron as their new bench coach and bringing back Tony Beasley to serve as third-base coach, per source.
Negron, 39, had a six-year playing career that included stops in Cincinnati, Seattle, Arizona and Los Angeles. Then, he turned to coaching and has quickly risen through the ranks, seemingly evolving into a future major-league manager. Shortly after his retirement in 2019, he was hired by the Mariners as an assistant to the director of player development. Negron was named the manager of Class AAA Tacoma in 2021 before joining the major-league staff as first-base coach in 2022. He spent this past season as the Mariners' third-base coach.
Beasley, 58, has spent the last 10 years with the Rangers, a stint that followed three seasons with the Pirates. Beasley mainly served as third-base coach with the Rangers, including this past season under BruceBochy. He did, however, serve as interim manager in 2022, compiling a 17-31 record over 48 games. Beasley previously served as the Pirates' third-base coach from 2008-10. Prior to that, he served as a minor-league coach and manager in the organization from 1998-2005.
A few additional support staff hires are expected, but the Pirates have now filled the three important voids within their coaching staff after hiring BillMurphy as pitching coach late last month.
