Tyler Callihan's day began with a 9 a.m. phone call from Class AAA Indianapolis manager EricPatterson, one in which he was informed that the Pirates were recalling him ahead of their eventual 7-2 loss to the Cubs here tonight at PNC Park.
Callihan quickly figured out his travel plans, made his way to the field so he could pack up his belongings and hopped on multiple flights before finally arriving at Pittsburgh International Airport around 6 p.m., a good 40 minutes before first pitch.
Callihan eventually arrived at PNC Park around 6:55 p.m. He changed into his uniform, hit the foam roller for five minutes, took 10 swings in the cage and threw a few plyo balls around before heading out to the field to replace a banged up NickGonzales at third base to begin the fourth inning.
“I was unsure (if I'd be playing)," said Callihan, who was acquired from the Reds in March. "Just staying ready, being hot and as fresh as I can mentally and physically.”
Callihan made the most of his opportunities at the plate, drawing a seven-pitch walk in the fourth and collecting his first hit as a member of the Pirates with a run-scoring double in the sixth. The latter concluded an eight-pitch at-bat in which Callihan fouled off three straight in the zone before getting ahold of a HobyMilner sinker:

"Today was the most comfortable I’ve been all season, for sure," Callihan said. "I feel very happy with the progressions I’m making with my swing and my at-bats. I feel like I saw the ball really well today and I'm just trying to do my best and be comfortable out there. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s just the visuals, the atmosphere. Just excited to play in games that matter.”
