Justin Lawrence has been designated for assignment as the corresponding move to activate Jared Jones from the 60-day injured list.
“Hope that he can get to AAA and get back to who we know he can be,” Don Kelly said of Lawrence, who had a 5.32 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 23 appearances with the Pirates this season. “Extremely difficult and I think that’s the challenge in the game from a personal standpoint, and having been through it myself, nobody gets more frustrated than the player that they are out there and they know that they can be better and their stuff is better. Justin was no different, very accountable and understanding where we are at and continuing to work to improve.”
