Brandon Lowe didn't waste time putting the Pirates on the board with one swing of the bat in the first inning here tonight:
HOME RUN: Pirates strike first in the first. Ninth home run of the season for Brandon Lowe is a shot to center. Pirates, 1-0 -- From José Negron in Phoenixpic.twitter.com/1dqHMPxAuz
That's Lowe obliterating an 0-1 changeup located by MichaelSoroka on the outer edge of the plate. He sent it 435 feet to dead center, giving the Pirates a lead they wouldn't relinquish in a 1-0 win at Chase Field.
“Honestly, it was just get up there, roll off a good swing and just try to pass the baton to the next guy," said Lowe, who is now tied with OneilCruz for the team lead in home runs with nine this season. "It took a really good swing. Love it. Any time we can give Paul(Skenes) a lead, we’re sitting pretty good.”
Lowe's homer would have went out in all 30 major-league ballparks, but he didn't act as if it was a no-doubter. Especially after KonnorGriffin hit a titanic shot off the center field wall for what ended up being a double on Tuesday night.
“After watching Konnor’s yesterday, I was kinda like, ‘Get out of the box and make sure we’re at least on two, or get as far around as we can.’" Lowe said. "I’ll joke with him, but if that wasn’t a homer yesterday, I wasn’t going to be too sure about anything. I was glad it went out.”
