The fan who fell 21 feet from the top of PNC Park's Clemente Wall and suffered critical injuries as a result has been identified as 20-year-old Kavan Markwood, per source.
Markwood, a 2022 South Allegheny graduate, plunged onto the warning track during Andrew McCutchen's two-run double in the seventh inning of last night's game between the Pirates and Cubs. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, the incident is being treated as "accidental in nature" and, as of 9 a.m. this morning, Markwood was listed in critical condition at Allegheny General Hospital.
“The South Allegheny School District is keeping former student and standout athlete Kavan Markwood in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” South Allegheny spokeswoman Laura Thomson said in a statement. “Kavan made a lasting impact on the South Allegheny community, both as an athlete and as a young man of character. … Kavan is best known for his resilience, strength, and kindness. He is a friend to all—someone who lifts others up and faces challenges with courage and grace.”
